Per Madsen commented on the visit by BAWA members:
"We had a very nice visit to the Schoenstein Pipe Organ Co
on Saturday March 22nd. The owner and CEO, Jack Bethards, guided us through the
operations with the help of Ed Schoenstein, BAWA member and grandson of the
founder. The shop is huge and in a section in the middle the roof has been
elevated another story to accommodate the enormous organs they build -- they
have to be fully assembled for testing and then taken apart again to be
re-installed at site. Unfortunately our visit was in between organs -- one had
been delivered recently and construction of the next just started. The equipment
favored by Mr Bethards is the old style heavy cast ion types -- like Oliver,
Mattison, Wadkin, Tannewitz and others -- many has been modified to suit
specific purposes.
Art Hofmann, program director at Sonoma County Woodworkers
Association, was also attending, and he invites BAWA members to view his photos of the visit
