We recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of our Bay Area Woodworking Organization. A few members remember the early days of the organization and all the changes that have taken place over the years. Coming to a meeting to learn more about woodworking has always been a major part of our meetings. However, it is also an opportunity to see friends again and discuss our latest furniture projects. We have had a lot of outreach projects over the years, including toy making and volunteering in San Francisco and the Peninsula with Rebuilding Together/Christmas in April. Our outreach projects have always been a time to give back to the community as well as to work together and have fun with our fellow woodworkers. It is always interesting when a member brings a new tool that that most of us have not seen in action yet. Christmas parties and more recently September dinner meeting have been opportunities to meet our members' spouses and enjoy a fun time together. We have visited many cabinet shops and furniture factories from as far as Bolinas to every corner of San Francisco, East Bay, South Bay and the Peninsula. We have visited a Harpsichord maker, the Maritime museum, a Pipe organ factory, and both small and large furniture factories. We started with a few members and now have more than 100. We will continue to enjoy the art and science of wood and to have fun in the process. What will the next 25 years bring? Time will only tell, but we hope to make it as much fun as the past 25 years.
