We now have an official BAWA PO Box. It is PO Box 2764 Menlo Park CA 94026-2764.

Flag Display Boxes

After our initial 4 person workshop where we made 6 triangular boxes, we left Bill Henzel to complete them. He has done a great job of sanding, putting several coats of finish, got the glass and had it cut and the boxes are now ready. Bill Tarleton of Diablo Woodworkers who is the Western Region representative of this nationwide effort asked if we had boxes since they were short. We will be transporting them to him. He will then pack and ship all the ones his group and other groups have made to NY. They will be presented with a folded flag inside to the families of those Police and Fire Persons who died on 9/11.

Rebuilding Together (formerly Christmas in April)

Bill Henzel is coordinating this year's effort. The date is Saturday, April 27th. HE NEEDS VOLUNTEERS! Please contact him at 620/349-3062 or wjh@gene.com. For those unfamiliar with this program. Each year either one site or two is assigned our group to help re-build something in a house owned by elderly people or low income people, a church or some other structure. We bring tools and do the job in one day. Last year, an outside staircase was rebuilt at a house. Also, large cabinets were built in a church. It is a fun way to learn new woodworking techniques and to meet some of your fellow woodworkers. I believe there is a large barbecue at the end of the day and you get to meet other groups that have also been doing projects. So don't delay and call Bill now. He won't mind the 2 AM call.

Box Competition in April!

This is a fun type competition. There are no rules other than it has to be a box. There will be many prize categories such as biggest, smallest, strangest and of course, BEST OF SHOW. Only one prize for the BEST OF SHOW will be awarded which is a 6-month round the world cruise for 16 people of the winner's choice. Unfortunately, all will have to fit in one 18' by 24' cabin. So get busy and make those boxes. REMEMBER, YOU ONLY HAVE 37 MORE DAYS TO COMPLETE THEM.

Of Interest

California College of Arts & Crafts (CCAC) is a private college which teaches among other things design and construction of furniture in their Wood/Furniture Program. The program reflects the position of 'studio furniture' as occupying the borderland between design disciplines of industrial design, architecture and interior architecture and the visual arts disciplines of sculpture, woodwork, metal, textiles and glass.

CCAC is located 1111 8th St., in San Francisco.

Contact: Associated Professor Donald Fortescue at 415/703-9553 or dfortescue@ccac-art.edu.

Note: We had a BAWA meeting here sometime back. A presentation was given by one of the staff on his work. We also toured the shop area. It is a very interesting place.

Eye Candy

My memory is very bad but someone gave me this web site to look at. It is the Green Design Furniture Company located in Portland, Maine. They design and build what they call Classic American home and office furniture. You can browse through their Showroom, Design section and Finishing section. Click on their LINKS option. They list some other interesting sites. Check them out at www.greendesigns.com.

Speaking of Eye Candy, remember that Jamie Buxton our Webmaster is building a resource of Lumber Yards, Hardware stores, Book stores, names of schools or courses, names of galleries, museums etc. Let him know your favorites. He is also building a photo gallery of member's work on our web site and also a photo album to be shown at the annual Woodworking Show. So bring your photos to the next meeting or e-mail them to him at buxton@tdl.com

HAPPY WOODWORKING
