Tools and Techniques

Thanks to everyone who brought in items for the February "Show and Tell." This is just what we needed! The quantity, quality and variety allowed us to learn a lot about what club members are doing in their shop and to answer questions we had about similar work we've attempted to do. There were many questions about the details of each piece, so it's obvious that our club is interested in this. Wasn't it great to see these?! Thanks to all of you who brought stuff in, keep bringin' those items in!

Now, how about volunteering for one of those 15-minute sessions we have at the beginning of our meetings called "Tools and Techniques"? Perhaps you have a really sweet new tool you want to tell us about, or maybe you've learned a technique for nailing, gluing, assembly, finishing or any other woodworking operation that you really want to share with us. You need to be able to present the topic in 15 minutes or less, plus a couple of minutes for questions from the audience. All we ask is that you have a written summary or drawing to handout at the meeting. We usually have about 40 to 45 people at our meetings. A copy place like Kinko's can quickly and inexpensively run this number of copies for you. One copy will also go to the Librarian, and will be available to any member to borrow in the future. The idea is to collect these in a notebook for future reference. We have had a number of members make these kind of presentations in the past, and many members have expressed great interest in having more of these.

We'll run these Tools and Techniques presentations promptly at 7:00 p.m. so get to the meeting on time if you want to see this! Then we'll have a short break before out business meeting at 7:30. If you would like to do a presentation or have an idea for one you'd like to see, call Jay Perrine, our Program Chair at 408/367-8227 or jperrine@calwater.com and he'll schedule it in.

We'll look forward to hearing your presentation!

Thanks Once Again to Robbie

We owe our thanks to Robbie Fanning for taking over the Treasury papers and accounts from Don Stern on such short notice. Don passed away suddenly, just as he was getting this year's books started on the new prorated dues system. Robbie has picked things up from this point and quickly got our financial machinery humming again just the way Don used to. This is in addition to her duties as "the Membership Guy and the Shows Guy!" Say thank you to her next time you see her.
