President's Corner

You have probably seen the TV news when a newscaster other than the anchor starts the newscast with the following, "So and so is off tonight, my name is that and that." Well I will start with the following, "Our President Craig Mineweaser is not available for this space, my name is Mark Rand, Vice President."

Craig was on a roll explaining to us last month about the results of the members' survey, we hope he'll continue next month.

Now for a few items. Robbie Fanning is organizing our September dinner meeting but she needs help. The dinner will start at 7 PM as hordes of members and their significant others descend on the place. So, she needs a few volunteers to help set up starting at 6 PM . If you can volunteer please contact her soon at rfanning@mac.com or 650/323-1183. Remember no help, late dinner.

At the last meeting, Tony Fanning described the search to fill Officer slots. All positions are open but no one has volunteered for Treasurer, Secretary, Refreshments and Library. Our club is booming. We have close to a 100 members, a healthy treasury and have had some memorable meetings but without officers the club cannot function. Please come forward and volunteer for one of the positions. It is not hard work and does not take a lot of time. Present and past officers are more than willing to help. If you have a friend who is willing to share a duty bring him/her on. C'mon now, help the club stay healthy. Pick up the phone and call Tony Fanning at 650/323-1183 (collect is OK except from Bangladesh) or email him at tonyfanning@mac.com.

At our September dinner, we will be discussing staffing our booth at the October 31st to November 2nd Woodworking Show in San Mateo. Spend a couple of hours in the booth and you get into the show free. You get to meet all kinds of friendly woodworkers and this is the way we get many of our members. So think about it and be prepared to sign up.

Now something else which I am directly involved in and that is the newsletter. For the newsletter, we cover the last and next months' meetings, and that is about it. Wouldn't it be great to have some additional articles related to woodworking such as woodworking tips, characteristics of various woods, dust control and a myriad of other things. I don't have the time to take this on. To have a Technical Editor would be great. You don't have to have any expertise but to just contact various members who do for a short article on some technique or a project description of something they are working on or hope to work on. Searching the internet is another approach. So give it some thought and contact me if you are interested even if you can't do it every month. Call me at 415/647-9244 (collect is OK even from Bangladesh) or okmor@sbcglobal.net.

Well, happy woodworking and see you on September 18th at our dinner and meeting. Oh bring an appetite since Robbie has some fantastic food for us and who knows you may win one of the prizes!
