Woodworkers Response to the September 11th Attacks

As I had mentioned in previous newsletters, the woodworkers of America want to show that they are not cowed by the attacks designed to bring down morale in our country.

Phil Cullen of San Ramon had an idea to have woodworkers build Flag Display Boxes to be given to family members of those killed in the September 11th attack. The Guild of Oregon Woodworkers together with the Diablo Woodworkers may have been the ones who organized this, I am not sure. The Oregon woodworkers have built several hundred of these boxes. Diablo Woodworkers have built 60. The Des Moines, Ames and Cedar Valley all in Iowa have built many boxes as well.

Shall BAWA get involved? There will be a workshop at Bill Henzel's shop on January 26. He lives at 3724 Southwood in San Mateo. Call him if you plan to come. His home phone number is 650/349-3062 or email to wjh@gene.com.

If you plan to build on your own then contact me, I have the plans and where to send them. The shipping containers and the addresses are available. I'm at 415/647-9244 or okmor@aol.com.

There is a lot of information on the web including the plans for building a box. Some of these sites are as follows.

Our Western Regional contact is Bill Tarleton of the Diablo Woodworkers. He can be reached at btarl@attbi.com or 925/939-8052.

WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO DO ANOTHER WORK SHOP. WILL SOMEONE VOLUNTEER THEIR SHOP? I HOPE THAT BAWA WILL COME UP TO THE CHALLENGE AND WE CAN DO OUR PART.
