"I always wanted to make a nice Walnut spice box: I chose a very heavily figured plank of Walnut and tried to hand-cut the case dovetails in a very cold workshop with no heating - gives it the old look"

Art Deco inspired Book Ends

Wood: Beech with Zebrawood
Technique: Biscuits

Hexagonal side table


Size: 20 in 20 in 20 in
Wood: Cherry, Maple, Rosewood and Mahogany
Chinese joints and hollowed legs
Finish: Wipe-on poly

"Used the Chinese 3 way joint normally used on rectilinear corners to a hexagonal top. Legs were hollowed out on 4 sides to reduce the weight."

Exploded Vase with Flower

Wood: Walnut and Beech with hand painted flower
Technique: A ring of half-lap joints

Chinese Lattice Inspired Stand

Wood: Cherry, Hard Maple, Thai Rosewood and Ebony with Mahogany underside
Technique: Chinese three way joints
Finish: Wipe-on poly

"The lattice design on the top of this stand is based on the design of a window from the town of Wuchang in the Ming period 1650 A.D."
