Tech Talk: Roy Presley will show examples of bent laminations and the tools he uses. Tool Talk: Richard Winslow on Vernier Calipers. Main Presentation: Eric Pfeiffer, Furniture Designer.
New wave designer and former windsurfer Eric Pfeiffer brings a fluid line to his furniture. His new Oakland, California-based company, Pfeiffer Design Lab, creates contemporary furniture, housewares, toys and lighting that build upon the work of Charles and Ray Eames, Alvar Aalto, and other icons. Most of his pieces grow out of needs that he can identify. For example, he designed the Perch lounge (a chair) out of a need for space-saving furniture. It's multifunctional--both seating and storage. He thinks that almost every piece of furniture has to do double-duty. He is working on a compact desk and a variety of organically shaped kids' products, including a chair inspired by a horse and a table inspired by an elephant. Eric will show slides and it should be an interesting presentation.
