The Sawdust Shop (3/2005)

I am opening a woodworking center in Sunnyvale called The Sawdust Shop. The center will consist of a membership-based woodshop, a woodworking retail store, and classes in woodworking. The woodshop is a 4000 sq-ft fully-equipped shop which members can utilize for their woodworking projects. Memberships can be annual, monthly or by the hour. The store will carry a complete line of woodworking tools and supplies. Opening is scheduled for April/May. I am looking for part-time help in setting up the shop and getting the store ready for opening day. Classes (3/2005) with Arnie Champagne

3/5-6 KRENOV STYLE WOODEN PLANE MAKING. Focus on sharpening Ron Hock plane blades, low angle block plane as well as sharpening other hand tool used. Emphasis will also be on using the planes correctly and making shavings at .001 or less.

3/23-13 ROCKING CHAIR CLASS ADVANCE STUDENTS ONLY. Will provide more specific information shortly. You will need at least 35 BD of 2" wood. Prior study will be the SM Woodworker Book.

3/26-27 DOVETAIL CLASS Focus will be on through and blind dovetail in a drawer or box of your choice.

4/9-10 DOUBLE BEVEL MARQUETRY (Veneering, pressing and band saw set up and saw blade sharpening to cut your own veneers and much more.).

4/16-17 JOINERY The opportunity of a lifetime to make as many joints as you can use, using 4 different precsion morticing and tenoning and doweling machines. Drawing for each joint is a must prior to the class. We will provide more information in the near future. Single, double, triple morticing And tenons at various angles will be covered. I must see your drawings to determine how much drawing is necessary to teach prior to actually doing the joints.

5/6-7 KRENOV STYLE WOODEN PLANE MAKING Focus on tool sharpening and on using the hand plane you make. We will also cover low angle block planes as well as metal planes you use and bring to class.

5/10-11 ALSO 5/14-15 TOOL AND TECHNIQUE ( SECOND SESSION) Finish the saw horses and begin a dovetail box as well as do drawings for a stool and coffee table.

5/28-29 COFFEE TABLE, END TABLE OR ANY OTHER SMALL TABLE YOU LIKE : MUST BE AT INTERMEDIATE LEVEL. I MUST SEE FULL SIZE PRINTS FIRST. INCLUDE 3 EA VIEWS. You might have to schedule a one on one drawing work up so you can purchase the wood milled up in advance. THIS MEAN SQUARE AND FLAT FOR ALL PARTS AND NO KNOTS. VENEERING OK
