Advanced Furniture Making Classes. Open to intermediate students: It is a great advantage for you to have had a plane class, dovetails class, and a marquetry class prior to taking these classes. Previous experience is discussed with you prior to signing up. The focus of the class begins with designing, layout and cutting templates for your piece. Working with full design prints is a must. We then work on selecting wood, milling, joining, edge treatment, draws, fitting, and finishing. Must have and be able to use a hand planes and cabinet scrapers. Because veneering opens up a new world of design freedom, we will spend time on how to work veneers, lay them up, and press them for possible use as the table top, drawer bottom, back panels, and in frame and panels.

Tools and Technique classes: These are on-going classes that focus on specific projects that are increasingly more challenging. Priority is given to previous students: Limited to four students. Our 1st session was to get your tools sharp and tuned-up. We will then select, design, layout and cut various joints to build confidence. In choosing the right joint as well as cutting to the line. Mortise and tenons, doweling, dovetails will be on going. Various other joint will be taught as needed. The students will go home with many joints cut and the knowledge they were done right. 2nd session: Build a settee. 3rd session: Build a dovetail jewelry box on a stand with some marquetry in it. 4th session: Designing and build a coffee table or end table.
