Size: 24 in. by 13 in. by 17 in."
Wood: Ash
Technique: hand tools mortise and tenon, Danish cord weaving
Finish: Odie's Oil
"This piece was made following an online course by Richard Maquire (aka the English Woodworker). I was attracted to this form with its subtle rake and splay angles and the curves.
I learned so much in the making of this piece including: making angled mortises and through mortises; shaping using planes, chisels and spoke shaves, and weaving with Danish paper cord."
Three-legged Stool
Size: 14 in. by 14 in. by 13 in."
Wood: Poplar
Technique: turned legs and stretchers, hand-shaped seat
Finish: Red milk paint, followed by black milk paint (partially scraped off) topped with Danish oil
"I turned the legs and stretcher on this stool as one of the first projects on my (newly refurbished) 1940's lathe
The stool was inspired by the article "Turn a Windsor-style Footstool" by Janet A. Collins in the American Woodturner magazine (2019).
I had to shape the seat using hand tools because my lathe doesn't have a large enough swing. The milk paint finish was inspired by Curtis Buchanan
- it is how he finishes his Windsor chairs"
