Thank you to John Levine

John Levine, our speaker last month, donated 35 new books to the BAWA library! Check out the list on the library page and stop by the library table and borrow them from Mike Cooper our Librarian. What a nice thing to do for BAWA members --- thank you John!

Thank you to Rebuilding Together volunteers

Every year, Rebuilding Together holds remodel, fix-up and repair events at schools, non-profit organizations and homes of the elderly all across the nation. It's always the last Saturday in April. This year BAWA members participated in the event held at the Malcolm X Elementary Academy in San Francisco. In order to finish in time, our group of volunteers worked the previous Saturday at Bartlett's Cabinetry. There they used Lyle's CNC router, programmed by CAD drawings prepared by Tony Fanning, to cut out all the pieces of plywood, etc. to build the bookcases, cubbies and closet shelving. Then they trucked all the material to the site and staged it at the school. The owner, Lyle Bartlett, worked right alongside our crew all day, and used his truck to do delivery, etc. He did an incredible amount of work, and we thank him for his help in getting us to our goal!

On the appointed day, our crew members worked all day at the school constructing and installing 51 bookcases, 6 cubbies, and over 80 closet shelf installations in 23 classrooms! Whew! That was an amazing amount of work! This was actually a little more than we had planned to do, but what the heck -- we were on a roll! This has been our most ambitious Rebuilding Together project so far.

The rest of the volunteers were painting the interior of the school meanwhile. So two sub-groups of painters were peeled off to help BAWA. They consisted mostly of high schoolers from Marin. About a dozen helped our workers install the shelves in the closets and another group of ten painted the completed cubbies. As usual, the painting of the school went on all around, and over, the BAWA crews --- yet they were still able to finish on time.

Across the nation, on this Saturday, the Rebuilding Together organization did $84 million dollars worth of construction with 250,000 volunteers! BAWA members can be proud to have been a part of this wonderful way of helping others. Congratulations and a hearty thank you to the following BAWA people who participated in this wonderful event.
