Rebuilding Together Another Success for BAWA!

A BIG THANK YOU to all our members who helped out on Sat, April 24th at the annual Rebuilding Together San Francisco event! Approximately 27 members showed up. This is unprecedented --- we've never had this many members help! They brought air compressors, nail guns, and lots and lots of woodworking tools to the Florence Crittenton Services building in SF. This facility, built in 1908, cares for infants of unwed and low income mothers and our project was to outfit two large garage buildings for storage and maintenance uses.

Under the able leadership of our team leader, Bill Henzel, our members were organized into work parties and party they did! This year Bill was House Captain -- GO BILL! Tony Fanning and Al Semenero helped him stage 20 sheets of plywood, 52 2x4s, 7 sheets of gypsum board and 5 sheets of pegboard, plus paint, and many other materials at the site. On the big day Bill organized our people into 8 crews. They demo'ed existing shelves, and in 30 minutes covered the 60 foot long outer walls with gypsum board. Next they built interior walls, shelves, a maintenance bench, and free standing shelves in the center of the room. Anchors were drilled into the concrete lower wall portion to hold brackets for the new countertops. Lots of painting and finishing work was done. In the 2nd garage a Pegboard wall with commercial shelving for storing children's car seats was built, plus two wooden office file cabinets were built and painted and another cabinet was cleaned and painted.

After a gourmet BBQ lunch catered on-site, they continued to work feverishly throughout the afternoon. And at the end of the day our team accomplished all its goals. Both garages were completed! What a fun way to help the community -- thanks all of you!!
