This month's presentations

Two Thousand Three should prove an interesting year as BAWA enters its third decade of existence, yes our 21st year as a functioning club. For our January meeting, Harold Patterson will do a Tech Talk on rebuilding a metal hand plane. Harold will discuss (not demonstrate so we don't soil the floor with chemicals, abrasives and paint) how to take a Flea Market find and turn it into that sweet tool just ready for that final little shaving to make your project perfect. Our speaker for the evening will be Merryll Saylan who will provide a slide show of her work in wood, including many turned pieces. We don't have many female woodworkers making presentations at our meetings (not forgetting you Linda!) and it is not only welcome to have a female woodworker, but a nationally respected one makes it even more special. Here are Merryll's words about her work: "Form, contrast, pattern, texture and color are primary themes in my work. Bowls and platters serve as canvas on which to investigate and explore surface manipulation and visual images. The nature of wood with it's inherent differences in color, grain and density offers the ground for experimentation. Living by a salt marsh with movement and patterns resulting from tidal action is reflected on my surfaces." Merryll taught last semester at CCAC and lives in the San Rafael area. Please join us for an interesting evening starting with tools and ending with interesting and colorful turned objects.
