This Month's Meeting

May 16th (3nd Thursday)

7:00 pm

Main Presentation

At our May 16th meeting the 7 p.m. Tech Talk, Jamie Buxton will talk about torsion box construction. He has a handout and will have some examples to demonstrate this handy technique.

The main speaker will be Jeff Traeger who will speak to us about reconditioning and restoring stationary power tools. Jeff is a member of Diablo Woodworkers and used to work for Chevron. When he retired he bought all new woodworking tools to pursue his woodworking hobby. Gradually he is replacing all of those new tools with older tools that he has meticulously reconditioned to a useful state and then sells his newer tool that the old one replaced. He has many slides which he will show to us and will have some practical suggestions for us should we wish to perform some mini-reconditioning ourselves. As with many topics today, Jeff is connected to a whole network of folks that love old cast iron and the trading of ideas and information on that subject. Since we all have some tools this should be of great interest to see how the wonderful tools, upon which we rely so much for the rapid and consistent work, can be brought back to life for another slug of work.

JUNE MEETING: our main speaker on June 20th will be our own Yeung Chan speaking about joints. He has just finished a BOOK on this topic that will be published soon and we can be the first to hear him discuss the topic. This will be one of the few meetings he can make this year due to his heavy teaching schedule.

OCTOBER MEETING: David Goldenberg (an attorney and new member) will discuss legal protection of woodworking/furniture designs for our Tech Talk. Jamie Buxton will discuss Vacuum Veneering for our main talk.

NOVEMBER: Annual Jigs & Fixtures craftily fashioned by YOU our MEMBERS.
